Renee | MIAD MODEL

Nothing short of muse...

I had higher aspirations for my drawing career than I do now. Early drawing education stressed the typical anatomical studies, but Renee came after. She was a fresh face when the basics were in place and the exploration of mark making was encouraged in service of the gesture and anatomy.

The look of these drawings is directly related to the paper texture reacting to willow charcoal. Willow charcoal creates this rough or cloudy texture, depending on if it was knocked down and blended in or left untouched. Layered with graphite, the drawings really can create a sense of volume in the figure. The small graphite hatches create a sculptural feeling as they define the form.
